The most recent capital improvement plans at Campbell Hall have been in the making since the school’s master plan was approved by the Board of Directors and the City of Los Angeles in 2009. In 2012, phase one of this plan was completed when we opened the Spielberg Family Arts & Education Center. We are now ready to take the critical next step that will advance the careful and deliberate planning and vision of CH families, leaders, board members, staff, and faculty.
With the growth of our programs, Campbell Hall finds itself at a critical moment. It is imperative that we address campus infrastructure and expand facilities now to ensure that we are able to educate and equip students for the future.
The next step entails the construction of The Holiday Center, a project that will reshape our athletic and wellness facilities, transform the heart of campus and build community connections. We invite every family to join us in supporting CH NEXT: The Campaign for The Holiday Center to help shape Campbell Hall’s future.
The Holiday Center will include a spacious gym with seating for more than 900 spectators, a healthy-eating dining hall, elementary arts and academic classrooms, and additional secondary classrooms.
Student enrollment has grown since The Garver Gym was built more than 38 years ago, and the need for venue space to accommodate our expanding programs is great. Additionally, the Garver Gym does not meet the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) standards. This has disqualified us from hosting athletic tournaments and championship games. The Garver Gym also does not meet the required number of spectator seats to qualify for playoff games, which has cost our teams some competitive edge.
The Holiday Center will be used by all Campbell Hall students. From the indoor/outdoor dining facilities that will have tasty and healthy eating options to elementary arts and academic classrooms to additional secondary classrooms, all students will have access to and use The Holiday Center. Every member of our community will benefit from the new gymnasium, which, in addition to being the site of exciting home games that will boost Viking pride, will also be used for community gatherings and events.
Today’s students benefit from the generosity of the Campbell Hall families and friends who came before them. For example, Garver Gym, the Academic Center and Ahmanson Library, and the Spielberg Family Arts & Education Center were all made possible through the philanthropic support of previous generations, including CH parents whose students graduated before the buildings were completed. In supporting CH NEXT, you are honoring a tradition of paying it forward. Your support helps to secure Campbell Hall as one of the premier independent schools in the country and enhances the prestige of holding a diploma from the school.
Campbell Hall has once again retained Gensler, an architectural firm renowned for its expertise in education design and innovative sustainability practices. Gensler designed the Spielberg Family Arts & Education Center and is very familiar with our campus and school community.
As we move forward with constructing the new facilities, our guiding principles are:
Ensuring a safe learning environment with a secure perimeter including the separation of spaces for construction workers and students;
Maintaining a high-caliber learning environment for all students;
Sequencing construction to ensure the least impact on school culture, school safety, and overall learning.
A comprehensive plan for summer and the academic school year construction will be unveiled soon with details on how we plan to continue academics, arts, athletics, carpool and other essential routines during construction.
